Tip of the Week - Internet Coupons
September 23, 2010 by David Goldstein
In these rough financial times, a new twist on one of the oldest and easiest ways to save money is internet coupons. We all remember clipping coupons from newspapers, and getting weekly coupons in the mail. Well, newspapers are rapidly becoming a relic, and if we get a coupon in the mail, we generally toss it with the rest of the junk mail. However, with a minimum of on-line skills, you can find a coupon for just about any business that offers them on the internet. Let’s look at the some of the different coupon options.
1.      National retailers - They all have websites, and on each website is a search box. Type in the word “coupon” and you will quickly find their latest coupons. They can be used at the brick and mortar store, or on-line, generally by use of a coupon code.
2.      National restaurants chains – The same tactics work for most national restaurant chains as for most national retailers. Go to the website, and find the search box, type in “coupons”, and you generally will be rewarded.
Tip – all National restaurants and retailers have sign-ups so that you can get their coupons via the internet regularly.
3.      Local businesses – Go to your favorite search engine, such as Google or Yahoo, and type in Coupons and your zip code. You will be rewarded with literally 100’s of sites where you can find coupons in your area. You can download and print them. Many are discounted gift certificates, that is, you can buy $25 worth of goods and services for $15. That’s great, if you intend to shop or eat at the location.
4.      Internet Specialty Retailers – A few months ago, I needed to buy a very specialized product over the internet. It was available only on two or three websites. I found what I was looking for, then went to Google, typed the company name, and the word “coupon” and I was rewarded with a $20 discount coupon that I could apply to my internet purchase.
Bottom line, coupons are more available than ever. By using a little internet savvy, you can find significant discounts every place you shop.

Being 'old school', my family has always clipped and redeemed coupons for products we regularly use. Bowing to the vastly superior internet savvy of our children, we have even learned how to use the internet to search, find and print coupons like you shared in this valuable tip.

Trust me, it works and even if it's only $30-50 a month, isn't that a good payoff for less than an hour of your time on the internet?

This takes a lot of time, but being out of work, that's one thing I seem to have plenty of. I need a better way to organize these coupons though

Great insight. I have never thought of this. I will now search for coupons on the internet before I go and buy anything.
