Jeff is the CEO of OurExperienceCounts.com. He has over 30 years experience in marketing and sales in technology industries. He founded and served as CEO at Innovative Robotics for 9 years. He has also held various senior management positions where he has demonstrated the ability to establish or revitalize businesses. While with VLSI Technology he setup and managed that company's Asian operations, which included three ASIC design centers. In three years revenues grew from less than $1 million to over $70 million annually. In addition to his work at OurExperienceCounts.com, he also serves as Chief Financial Officer at Borgata Recycling and also provides career counseling at ProMatch (a nationally recognized career counseling center for Silicon Valley professionals).
We’ve all heard the expression “don’t just sit there, do something.” Well, that’s what I’m saying to you right now! Many of you spend your days looking over job-boards to find an opportunity that’s a good fit. That strategy will probably keep you unemployed for a long time. You need to find a job opportunity that has not been advertised or one where a member of your network presents you as a viable candidate.- Make a list of target companies.
- Research your network to locate people you know at these companies.
- Get on the phone and initiate informational interviews.
- Find potential internal advocates to introduce you.
- Find jobs not advertised on the net.
You need to find opportunities that don’t force you to compete with dozens of other applicants based on your resume. That won’t happen if you think that the best way to find your next job is by attending job fairs and working the net.
