Making Ourselves Better Job Candidates
November 02, 2011 by Jeff Winters
The challenges experienced workers face in finding their next job has been well documented on this site and elsewhere. At OurExperienceCounts.com it has always been our goal to help you turn your age and experience into an asset, instead of a liability. Our webinars, workshops and blogs all focus on giving you the competitive edge you seek, but education isn’t the only answer.

Most of us are painfully aware of the fact that our culture and the marketplace reflect the importance we put on youth. That being said, there is not much we can do about the fact that many of us are a little long in the tooth. What we can do something about is using our time off to get back into shape. By this I mean both physically and mentally. Get yourself to a gym or start running or riding a bike. You will not only improve your appearance, but you might even improve your health. Take a course in anything that enables you to demonstrate that in spite of your age, it is important to you to continue learning and keep up with changes that effect your performance and productivity.

Nothing can replace the wisdom we gain with experience, but we must overcome the stereotype expectations that plague us. The best way to accomplish this is to look and sound like an applicant with both energy and passion. An applicant who refuses to accept the fact that being a little older means I can’t keep up.
